General information
The Peace Operations Training Institute trains peacekeepers, humanitarian workers, United Nations staff, and other persons interested in global peace and security. We offer several courses, allowing anyone to study peacekeeping topics from anywhere in the world at any time. Military and civilian staff may take courses in preparation for deployment at a peackeeping mission, or they can add to their knowledge while they are in the field.
There were recently as many as 120 000 UN personnel serving on eighteen United Nations peacekeeping missions. Thousands of students from over 182 nations have enrolled in correspondence courses from Peace Operations Training Institute.
How our training works
- Enrol in a course online through one of our training programmes.
- Download the course text.
- Read and study on your own schedule.
- Take the End-of-Course Examination online.
- If you pass, you receive a Peace Operations Training Institute Certificate of Completion.
Each course comes as a single self-contained text. You can read and study as quickly or as slowly as you wish. To complete a course, one must pass the online End-of-Course Examination, a series of fifty multiple-choice questions. Students who score 75% or better earn a Certificate of Completion bearing their names and the titles of the courses passed. Their names also appear on our honour roll.
